We are thrilled to celebrate Mrs. Mays, an intermediate school teacher who has been named the Air & Space Forces Association (AFA) Chapter 102 Teacher of the Year!
Mrs. Mays was nominated by parent Heather Campbell, with a strong supporting letter from Dr. Lashae King.
She was recently honored at the AFA Chapter 102 Teacher of the Year Luncheon, where she was joined by fellow honorees and special guests, including Alabama State Superintendent of Education Dr. Mackey.
We are so proud to have Mrs. Mays representing Pike Road Schools and grateful for the educators who make such a difference in the lives of our students every day. Congratulations!

Monday, August 24, starting at 5:00 p.m.
The meeting will be held at the Pike Road Schools Central Office.

We’re celebrating two Pike Road Schools teachers who are turning great ideas into hands-on learning opportunities for our students!
👏 Amy McDevitt, Pike Road Elementary kindergarten teacher and a Patriot since the district opened in 2015, received a $1,000 Guardian Credit Union Teach for Tomorrow Grant for her Brain Builders project. The after-school program will use strategic board games to help students build problem-solving, collaboration, communication, and other important skills—all while having a little fun!
👏 Misty Trussell, our gifted program teacher serving students at both the elementary and intermediate schools, also received a $1,000 grant for Design-It-3D: Hands-on Innovation. Her students will use 3D printing to design, create, test, and refine their own prototypes while exploring real-world applications in fields like healthcare, robotics, and aerospace.
Two very different projects. One shared goal: giving our students more opportunities to create, explore, and discover what they can do.
Congratulations, Amy and Misty! We’re so proud of you, and very grateful to Guardian Credit Union for investing in our teachers and their big ideas! ❤️💙

This announcement builds directly on the momentum of our recently completed project! Just last week, PRIS students stepped into their new cafeteria eating space for the first time. Constructed in the former gymnasium building, this newly converted space also includes six new classrooms and four renovated classrooms for our 5th-grade students. These upgrades mark an exciting step in our ongoing campus transformation.
To allow construction to start as soon as possible, we are planning to transition our 6th-grade students to the Georgia Washington (GW) campus in January, creating a dedicated true middle school experience for our students!
Stay tuned for more details in the coming months. Great things are happening in Pike Road!
